They are Gillian and Carolyn, and started this blog seven (!) years ago as a way to encourage women to take time out for themselves, and to be a part of a supportive lady-gang. At the time they were both married and on maternity leave with their youngest children (Carolyn has three and Gillian has two).
Carolyn was pissed off by the negativity being proliferated online – both in the way women spoke about themselves and the way some women tried to tear other women down. She wanted to create a positive space for smart women to gather and take some time out of their busy lives.
Since the beginning they have always emphasised the importance of women prioritising their wellbeing and health – making sure galpals and good times are included in the mix.
They relaunched as an online magazine in 2016 with a collective of writers on board. Having more writers and experts in various fields meant they could broaden the conversation and cover a more diverse range of topics.
The content has always been opinionated, contributing to healthy and positive discussions for women everywhere. They’ve written articles about health and wellbeing, sex, indulgence, beauty and society, delivered with authority and their signature touch of irreverence. They launched a private Facebook group, Champagne Women in 2017. They believe that respectful debate is a healthy way to tackle difficult issues, so they love seeing the lively discussions that take place in the group.
And then of course, as happens to all of us, they were hit by some personal challenges. Life took some twists and turns and they each ended up separating from their husbands a year apart – and ultimately divorcing. Carolyn’s started at the start of 2017, and Gillian’s started almost exactly a year later at the start of 2018.
That’s why they’ve now created Champagne Divorce Club. It’s a membership-based program designed to help you to make it through the first stages of separation and step forward into your brand new life. Check it out, we’d love to see you!
