Claire spent the first 36 years of her life in two different strict religious movements. Although both based on Catholicism, the latter group was a bit more sinister. The leader of that group was jailed for pedophilia after abusing his power by molesting teenage girls.
After challenging the leaders’ authority through a series of letters, Claire and her family were evicted from the latter group. For the first time in her life Claire was free, albeit with 8 children in tow.
Living in the real world for the first time in their lives, those early days were a struggle as Claire and her children learned how to navigate their way in a world that was very new to them. Claire was determined that her children would not suffer as she did, being home-schooled without television or other media and ignorant about the world and its’ ways.
Claire persevered and educated herself every which way she could. This led to giving 4 TEDx talks within the space of 2 years.
Claire’s story, as described in her memoir “Lessons From A Cult Survivor” is one of strength, resilience and courage.
After escaping the cult, Claire had no idea about the outside world or how to survive on her own. But survive she did. Claire went on to forge an amazing life, is an author, a coach and has delivered no less that four Ted X talks. She has remarried and raising her children in Brisbane, Australia.
